Prof. Zhu Daochen headed/heading more than 10 natural science foundation projects.  Key scientific research projects in recent years are as follows:

1. The key technologies for biotransformation of natural vanillin from lignin biodepolymerization(The National Key Research and Development Program of Jiangsu Province, supported by Jiangsu Provincial Department of science and technology, China, 2021-2024)

2. Processing biomimetic technologies for converting lignocellulose into high-value added consumer and industrial products (The National Key Research and Development Program of China , supported by Ministry of science and technology of China, 2019–2023)

3. Analysis and regulation of multiple reverse electron transport pathways in microbial electroreduction of heavy metal pollutants (supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2016–2019)

4. Efficient synthesis and production of ectoine by marine microorganisms (supported by Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu, China, 2013–2016)

5. The study on the mechanism of regulation and trigger of the synthesis metabolism pathway of hydroxyectoine in halotolerant bacterium in response to extreme environment (supported by Science and Technology Department of Jiangsu, China, 2012-2015)

6. The synthesis and excretion of hydroxyectoine in halophilic bacteria. (supported by Scientific Research Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars, State Education Ministry, 2012-2015)
